Here's an old internet meme blast from the past, which still gets me in stitches every time I watch it.
This is the most amazing video - it's both terrible and brilliant at the same time. The clean-cut orange-skinned leading man, the slightly awkward-looking backing singers, the boppin' axeman - and then the TV host coming in at the end declaring what we just witnessed as 'terrific' and 'beautiful'.
Check out some of those lyrics:
Once I tried to run; I tried to run and hide
But Jesus came and found me and He touched me down inside
He is like a Mountie; He always gets His man
And He'll zap you any way He can ... ZAP!
When I first saw it I assumed it was some kind of parody, but I don't think anyone could do a parody that good. Looking up the background on Know your meme it turns out the song was actually aimed at children so that doesn't make it so bad a song*. Still, I have no doubt any Christian musician with a desire for Christianity to be relevant in any way will watch this and cringe.
But, hey, let's not worry too much about things like that - it's a lot of fun!
